Visual + Culinary Art

Since 2011 Vanguard Culture has been hosting intimate artsy evenings in celebration of delicious food and creative people. Foodie Soirées are typically held in private homes of artists, art collectors, and arts patrons with unique spaces.  Events feature cutting-edge art installations; live performances by some of the region’s best dancers, musicians, singers and actors; tours of private art collections; chef demonstrations; and more.

This time around they are taking the Foodie Soirée to a new dimension with: Foodie Intuition: A Visual + Culinary  Art Exploration of the Senses.   Chefs choose an artist’s work from the PHYSIQUE exhibition at Sparks Gallery as inspiration for their appetizer creations.

Dark Subject Matter Two Artist Show – Reception This Saturday

Phantom Gallery Oceanside

Dark Subject Matter Two Artist Exhibition

Not your usual art exhibition of beautiful, lighthearted people, pets, flowers, and landscapes.  Curator Ruth Jameson was touched by two artists’ expressions of the darker subjects of war, misery, despair, and depression.

Mohammed Al Hamadani – Painter

Jameson says of painter Al Hamadani: “Mohammed just walked into the Gallery last month with some of his work.  I was stunned at the depth and the visceral impact of his work.  He has made his history a memorable story of what he and his family and fellow Iraqis went through on the night of Shock and Awe which they call the ‘Night of Fire’.  This war I believe will go down in our Nation’s history as one of the worst blunders of Foreign adventures ever to ensue.  In spite of the fact that we killed over 200,000 thousand Iraqis, they still have hope that we can hope for a better future for both of our Nations.”

Julia S. Rasor – Sculptor

Jameson says of sculptor Rasor: “Julia’s works characterize the Human struggle.  Whether it exemplifies the economy, international affairs or just our daily lives of trying to live our destinies, the works speak in a very emotional way of our humanness in a world of sorrows and joys.”
